Berry testing at Eastern Creek
With the World Time Attack Challenge drawing closer, the challengers are putting in a serious effort in order to get their cars more competitive.
We caught up with Mark Berry who was out testing his R34 GT-R at the Eastern Creek Raceway recently.
Superlap: We’ve noticed There’s some funky new body work on the front of your car, does it really make that much difference?
Mark Berry: You’d be surprised! Through the corners we need all the grip we can get and that’s when aero really helps.
SL: You’re also experimenting with an automatically adjustable rear wing…
MB: Yes, it’s all part of the overall strategy to give us more grip under braking and under accelleration. It’s a tricky business but we’re getting there.
SL: Eastern Creek is considered a “fast” circuit, do you think it’ll favour cars with a higher top speed?
MB: Not at all, whatever you make up on the straight you’d lose in the corners to the smaller, more agile cars.
SL: So you’re not chasing top speed then?
MB: We’re chasing speed everywhere. It’s ALL about speed, we’ll be up against the top teams in the World, these guys are incredibly fast and we can’t afford to lose a second anywhere.
