FIVE HOTTEST GR YARIS AT YOKOHAMA WTAC 2022

Cool all-wheel-drive, turbocharged Japanese performance cars have been pretty thin on the ground over the last few years, so we were doing backflips when Toyota released the GR Yaris. These rally-inspired hatchbacks have been grabbed by the tuning scene like a free beer in an outback pub, so here are our picks for five of the best GR Yaris at the 2022 Yokohama World Time Attack Challenge!

GT Autogarage

All the way from Queensland, the 5UMO GR Yaris is drawing huge interest on the Yokohama stand thanks to its wild Rocket Bunny kit covered in the HKS Oil Splash livery. Built by GT Auto Garage and rolling on a set of custom Koya, it rocks a Motec M142 ECU and PWR intercooler for a spicy street package.

Evolution Racing Spares

Justin Lewis’ Haltech Clubsprint-entered Yaris rocks a 200kW package from ERS, as well as TracTive electronically adjustable suspension, AP Racing front brakes and TE37 wheels. This is the first time Justin has driven on Sydney Motor Sport Park, so Yokohama World Time Attack Challenge is more of a shakedown for him.

Andrew Hawkins has his hands full running his JET200 Silvia in GCG Open Class, driving his fifth-gen Supra in Haltech Clubsprint, plus running his R32 GT-R in the Turbosmart Flying 500, so he wasn’t running his epic 300kW Yaris this year. It still cuts an impressive figure on his trade stand, though!

Lamspeed

With Yokohama World Time Attack Challenge legend Adam Casmiri behind the wheel the Lamspeed GR Yaris is hitting Haltech Clubsprint hard. It runs an upgraded ECU, exhaust, intake, intercooler, Elig brake pads, Sydney Composites splitter, Voltex rear wing, and MCA and Hardrace suspension. Adam has run a PB of 1:38 on Day One in the 275kW beast.

V-Sport

Sydney motorsport specialists V-Sport brought their new GR Yaris development car. Designed as a street car package it features Zeal suspension and an Endless 6-pot/4-pot big brake kit, with a Ministry of Fab roll cage, the engine mods are limited to an intake and Neal Bates Motorsport exhaust for the time being, though a new ECU and bigger turbo are coming soon.
