For the first time on Australian shores, we welcome two drifters from China to the Garrett International Drifting Cup!
Jerry Zhu and Chen ‘Ken’ Wenqian are two prominent drifters from China. They are heading to our shores to display their prowess and talent and proudly represent their home country. This will be the first time Chinese drifters have ever contested an Australian competition, and what a place to debut!
Jerry has been instrumental in bringing the sport of drifting to China, and has been in the sport since 2001. After a brief personal hiatus, he returned to the sport in 2015, better than ever.
“This is always in my heart. I want to feel the car go sideways again. I made the decision after 6 years to return to the China Drift Championship,” says Zhu.
Since he’s been back, he’s had podium finishes in each year, with 2019 being the best year for his form, winning the first round in the current CDC season.
Jerry also competes in D1GP China and D1NZ, and he has been touted as an international talent to keep an eye on.
He will be driving his 2JZ-powered Nissan S15 Silvia, which uses a Garrett GTX4088 turbo to put a whopping 1000HP to the rears via a TTI gearbox and Winters quick change.
Jerry will be representing China alongside Chen Wenqian, popularly known as Drift Ken. Ken is a bit newer to the sport but he has quickly risen to the task, taking countless Pro and Super Class podiums for the China Drift Championship.
Ken will be driving a Toyota 86 stuffed with an almighty supercharged 6.2L LSA hooked up to a TTI 5 speed transmission. Making sure this beast will have the twerk to match the torque, a full Wisefab catalogue was thrown at the steering components.
“It’s thrilling that we’ve had interest from China for the Garrett International Drifting Cup! Year on year we’ve seen more countries we had never expected show great interest in our Sydney-grown competition,” says WTAC drift operations manager, Dan Mackie.
“The boys will put on a great show and put up a great fight, and they are out to show that they are among the world’s best talent in the sport!”
