Time attack Pro Class legend Under Suzuki and his iconic Scorch Racing S15 are confirmed to return with a vengance to World Time Attack Challenge this October 18-19, 2019!
“The reason my car missed it last year is because I felt that I couldn’t compete in a stock body anymore,” says Under.
“The car I have been driving in the past is a completed and finished project therefore I am now making a new car,” he says, “I am building the car after work hours in the middle of the night.”
“The chassis has been changed remarkably as well as the suspension and transmission. All this to make the car even faster.”
Although the body panels and SR20 engine remain from his previous vehicle, the chassis has been completely redeveloped. Full details remain scarce at this point, even as we visited him at the Scorch Racing facility in Japan.
What we do know is that the construction is focused on minimum weight and maximum rigidity. The centre-of-gravity is lowered with engine placement, and a transaxle transmission has been employed to improve front-rear balance. Chromoly tubing forms a majority of the S15’s skeleton, while still retaining factory firewall and floor pan in compliance with WTAC regulation.
“I will be building the car up to the last shipping day without testing, so the work and long nights will most likely continue in Australia.
Under’s history at World Time Attack Challenge spans back to 2011 when he first entered and since then he has been returning year on year to keep challenging for the title. Many fans may forget who won Pro Class in any given year, but all fans will remember Under Suzuki. He is the perpetual underdog, the dark horse hero, and this year, he’s looking to change that.
