WTAC 2024: 30TH - 31ST AUGUST
GARRETT INTERNATIONAL DRIFTING CUP
The INTERNATIONAL DRIFTING CUP presented by Garrett – Advancing Motion returns as the night time, all action, door banging feature event as part of the Yokohama World Time Attack Challenge!
The Garrett International Drifting Cup (IDCup) is revving its engines for 2024, and this year promises an electrifying new format: pool play! This exciting departure from tradition throws the best Australian drifters head-to-head against international superstars in a battle for supremacy. Gone are the days of single-elimination heartbreak; the pool format ensures more track time for your favourite drivers and guarantees heart-stopping battles throughout the entire event.
The format is simple yet thrilling. All drivers are seeded into pools, facing each other within their groups. Only the top two drivers from each pool advance to the prestigious "Great 8," essentially the quarter-finals. This extended competition keeps the pressure on drivers throughout the event, demanding consistent excellence to avoid an early exit. For fans, it translates into a nonstop spectacle, with Friday night dedicated to a majority of the pool battles and Saturday night seeing the conclusion of pool play followed by the intense knockout rounds that crown the 2024 IDCup Champion.
Organisers listened closely to fan feedback, resulting in a format specifically designed to maximise on-track action and deliver the kind of door-banging battles that leave audiences breathless. Live streaming for both nights ensures that even those who can't make it to the track can experience the raw energy and electrifying competition.
"This format gives fans the most opportunity to see their favourite driver on track," says Drift Operations Manager Dan Mackie. "With pool rounds on both Friday and Saturday nights, drivers can't afford a single off-night. Dropping just one battle can mean missing the Great 8 and watching the rest of the competition from the sidelines."
Drift competiton entry is by invitation only. For any further information or enquiries, please email drift@worldtimeattack.com
